Group Work

In group classes, called Awareness Through Movement® or Bones for Life®, by contrast, are group lessons during which an instructor verbally advises students on how to move rather than physically moving the students. This process can help increase students awareness of their movement patterns and may enable them to determine ways in which their patterns of movement are contributing to pain.

Bones for life is a program developed by Moshe’s student Ruthy and is based on Feldenkrais teachings. The basic dynamics of both programs are the same and there are group lessons. The difference in BFL classes is to awaken the strength, durability, and weight bearing ability of the bones and skeleton system. This goal is reached by some exercises that create strength against gravity.

The Feldenkrais® or Bones for Life®  teacher verbally leads you through a sequence of movement in basic positions: sitting or lying on the floor, standing or sitting in a chair. The lessons consist of comfortable, easy movements that gradually evolve into movements of greater range and complexity. These are precise structured movement explorations that involve thinking, sensing, moving and imaging(reaching, standing, lying to sitting).

Pillows, rollers, wraps, small weights and blankets can be used to support person’s body configuration or to facilitate certain movements. During the session, the students should wear comfortable clothes.

A lesson can last from 60 to 90 minutes.
